Activities

The Society strives to find new and interactive ways to “tell the story” of the growth of Ocean View and Baltimore Hundred. Past lecture topics have included Civil War Delaware, the History of Sussex County, the Genealogy of the Tunnell-West Family, the History of Halls Store, the Maritime Life of the Coastal Towns, the Growth of the Poultry Industry, and others. Lectures are DVD recorded and made available to the public for a nominal fee.

Educational Outreach

Currently, Society members are working with the Indian River School District to arrange educational excursions to the Ocean View Historical Complex. One of the Society’s primary goals is to provide interactive learning experiences for local youth to create respect for, and interest in, our past.

Future Projects

Hall's Store

1. Build a visitors center for the purpose of greeting, teaching, meetings, lectures and social events.

2. Complete interior restoration of the post office.

3. Rehabilitate and prepare the Coastal Towns Musesum at 40 West Avenue, including display cases, removal of upstairs plumbing, and general maintenance and repairs.

Contributions to these projects are greatly appreciated. Please use the attached form if you wish to make a contribution. The Ocean View Historical Society is a non-profit organization and all contributions are tax deductible. Tax ID# 26-1719840

The Historical Society needs the financial help of everyone as we work together to preserve the history of our coastal towns area. A pledge form follows and we hope you will support our efforts.
