Activities

The Society strives to find new and interactive ways to “tell the story” of the growth of Ocean View and Baltimore Hundred. Past lecture topics have included Civil War Delaware, the History of Sussex County, the Genealogy of the Tunnell-West Family, the History of Halls Store, the Maritime Life of the Coastal Towns, the Growth of the Poultry Industry, and others.  Many lectures are recorded on YouTube.

Educational Outreach

Currently, Society members are working with the Indian River School District and other groups to arrange educational excursions to the Ocean View Historical Complex. One of the Society’s primary goals is to provide interactive learning experiences for local residents to create respect for, and interest in, our past.

Future Projects

  1. The Tunnell West House has a major problem with its exterior siding. Professional opinions have recommended replacing the siding with the weather resistant siding available today. a fundraising campaign is trying to obtain enough funds to preserve this 1860’s home.
  2.  Complete the interior restoration of the post office and restore the exterior windowsills.
  3. Minor improvements to the Coastal Towns Museum, the barn, and the Woodhouse for maintenance purposes.
