THANK YOU!

We are grateful for all the support shown to HVOV during the recent 24 hours of non-profit giving.

Our Village had the most successful Do More 24 Delaware event in our history. The proceeds are imperative towards

continuing to fulfill our mission and remain viable as an all-volunteer non-profit organization. Be on the lookout

for several Dine & Donate events to come in April and November at two favorite local restaurants. Come join us!

FUNDRAISING

DINE & DONATE

We are fortunate that various local restaurants are very supportive of non-profit organizations in the area. We recently held several Dine & Donate events at The Café on 26 at the end of September and Fins Ale House & Raw Bar in early November. Stay tuned for next year's Dine & Donate fundraisers!

These events make it easy for our neighbors to support us while also patronizing a local business that gives back to the community it serves.

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH

Village members plan to work with the Indian River School District and other groups to arrange educational excursions to the Historic Village in Ocean View.

One of the Village’s primary goals is to provide interactive learning experiences for local residents to create respect for, and interest in, our past.

Our hope is that these educational excursions will foster a deeper appreciation for history among local residents.

ACTIVITIES

The Village strives to find new and interactive ways to “tell the story” of the growth of Ocean View and Baltimore Hundred.

Past lecture topics have included Civil War Delaware, the History of Sussex County, the Genealogy of the Tunnell-West Family, the History of Halls Store, the Maritime Life of the Coastal Towns, the Growth of the Poultry Industry, and others.

Many lectures are recorded and on our YouTube Channel.

FUTURE PROJECTS

We hope to complete the following projects over the next few years:

  • The Tunnell-West House has a major problem with its exterior siding. Professionals have recommended replacing the siding with the weather- resistant siding available today. We have obtained significant funds through the State Bond Bill to begin (and hopefully complete) this project and preserve this 1860’s home.

  • Complete the interior restoration of the post office, power wash and paint the entire exterior, and restore the exterior windowsills.

  • Minor improvements to the Coastal Towns Museum, the barn, and the Woodhouse for maintenance purposes.

Contributions to these projects as well as general operations are greatly appreciated. Please donate if you wish to make a contribution. The Historic Village in Ocean View is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (26-1719840) and all contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable under Federal and State and law.

The Historic Village needs the financial help of everyone as we work together to remain viable and preserve the history of our coastal towns area. Pledges for specific projects can also be designated and are deeply appreciated. Please consider donating to our organization.
