History of the Life-Saving Service in Delaware

Before the Coast Guard existed, the brave men of the United States Life-Saving Service battled winds and waves to rescue sailors in distress. Six life-saving stations existed in Delaware and responded to hundreds of wrecks along the coast.

The Historic Village in Ocean View, Delaware is delighted to host a presentation by Delaware Seashore State Park Interpretive Programs Manager, Tyler Dreiblatt, who will discuss how the U.S. Life-Saving Service started, how the life-saving stations operated, and what became of them, while also presenting some shipwreck stories!

This event will take place at Hall's Store in the Historic Village on March 19, 2025 at 7:00PM. Hall's Store is directly adjacent to John West Park in Ocean View, Delaware. Please mark your calendars and join us!

Parking is available in the lots at 32 and 33 West Avenue.
